What are the meaningful differences?

Can Apple Journal record and transcribe audio?

Yes. It would be inaccurate to position Fond as the only way to speak into a journal. Apple documents audio recording and transcription on Mac, including language and locale restrictions. Check its audio instructions against the device and language you use.

Fond’s intended routine continues after the transcript: it organizes the people and places you mention so you can revisit a moment or ask about saved entries. Test that part of the experience. How should you think about privacy and backups?

Fond uses Cloudflare and Anthropic to transcribe and organize your journal and answer questions. That requires sending relevant recordings and text to those services. Fond protects data in transit and keeps journal content out of product analytics; it is not an end-to-end encrypted journal. Read the Fond privacy policy before choosing it for sensitive entries.

Apple documents app locking, iCloud synchronization, and backup choices in its protection guide. Sync and backup are not interchangeable: review the instructions for your device instead of assuming every copy is backed up automatically.
